Biography
Prof. Dr. Rahib H. Abiyev was born on 8 January 1966. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees (First
Class Hons.) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, Baku. In
1997, he completed his PhD in technical science.
In 1999, Dr. Rahib Abiyev joined the Department of Computer Engineering at Near East University,
Northern Cyprus. He was appointed Professor in 2009. He has served as Chairman of the Department of
Computer Engineering and is currently the Director of the "Applied Artificial Intelligence Research
Centre".
His research interests include computer engineering, artificial intelligence, control systems, soft
computing, signal processing, and algorithms. He has published 7 books and more than 200 research
papers, with over 60 papers listed in the Citation Index List (Web of Knowledge). Prof. Abiyev
founded the "Applied Artificial Intelligence Research Centre" in 2001 and the "Robotics" research
group in 2008. Under his supervision, the "NEU Islanders" robotic football team was created in 2010,
competing annually in the World RoboCup since 2012.
Prof. Rahib Abiyev is a
distinguished expert in AI and Robotics, contributing significantly to both academia and
international research initiatives.
